What is it?
Got a writer’s block? Can’t find
the solution to your problems? Or simply just in need of a device to enhance your
creative and critical thinking? Fret not for the Invincible Vacuum Pack is here to save your day! Just like how creativity
is often found by rediscovering the extraordinary in the ordinary, the
Invincible Vacuum Pack turns the mundane, everyday household equipment into a
cognitive device of superpowered levels. Perhaps subconsciously, I was trying
to drive across the point that creative thinking should never be seen as
something impossible – they often say self-doubt is the greatest barrier to
creativity – and I truly believe it is never beyond the ability of the everyday
man.
How does it work?
How does it work?
My dream device the Invincible
Vacuum Pack, or more shortly abbreviated as the IVP works almost like an evolved
version of the conventional vacuum. It is painted in bright red to embody the
passion, bold thinking and trailblazing inventiveness that I think creativity
represents. Like any vacuum, the power head sucks in everything from the
tangible to the intangible, including thoughts, objects, histories,
conversations, knowledge, information, insights and inspiration and just about everything
it sees and hears. In short, it works like a recorder and camera on a
supercharged level, with the ability to even absorb information transmitted
through online networks just through close proximity. Designed with the user in
mind, the IVP has been fashioned to be lightweight and portable, with
attachable backpack straps so that the user can easily carry it around on the
fly (literally!) whenever creative thinking is required.
Next comes the fun part – the interior
of the IVP:
The interior of the IVP works
similarly to a factory production line, with distinct process steps. I imagine that
within the IVP there exists metaphysical beings or helpers that aid in this
process, and they coexist in a harmonious ecosystem and city similar to the
Silicon Valley in San Francisco, which is known for its thriving entrepreneurial
culture, and hotbed for fresh ideas and ingenious products
1. As
insights and ideas are sucked into the IVP through the “In” outlet, they are
first digested and stripped down to their basic components. Very often the
barrier to creativity include our own stereotypes, bias, and preconceptions –
if we are able to eliminate these barriers and view information in its
simplicity, I believe the process of creative thought will definitely be sped
up.
2. As
they travel down the stream, information in its core components are illuminated
to be seen in a different light. A 3D object, for instance, will cast a
different shadow depending on the angle light shines upon it.
3. Information
bits are then classified according to the skillsets they supplement and areas
of the brain it targets.
4. Next,
creative thoughts are tested and controlled for their originality. That’s right
– if they aren’t wacky enough they are axed!
5. Finally,
our creative thoughts are almost ready. Pierre the helper (Fun fact: Pierre’s
the one with the pouty lips. All workers at IVP are referred to by their first
name, and loved and valued like family) packages them for easy diffusion into
the user’s brain.
Creative thoughts then exit through
the “Out” outlet of the IVP’s main body. It then enters the airtight helmet
section, which honestly is just an oversized fish bowl turned upside down,
before the soluble creative thought particles diffuses itself into the user’s
brain. In the meantime, the helmet is filled with the vibrant colours of these
thoughts that symbolise the infectious energy of creativity – and as passers-by
and other people interact with the IVP user, they will be able to see and
hopefully be simultaneously inspired by these creative thoughts too. After all,
I think the spirit of creative thinking lies very much in inspiring and being
inspired by others.

As a bonus, the IVP comes equipped
with a jetpack, for the user to fly around earth and cover greater distances, and
to absorb new sights and sounds from new places and different cultures. I think
that when it comes to superpowers, nothing will come as quintessentially close
to the classic hero as to flying around the sky like superman!
